I personally thinks having an expert doing it for you is a better choice for me. They know what they are doing. End of the day we are dealing with machinery and one should always use it when they are experienced and educated about it.

But should an expert be expected to know what you have done to your air system in the privacy of your home.

For example, you put WD40 in your fill nipple (DO NOT DO THIS!) and then hand it over to the expert, who then promptly sets fire to everything with a large explosion.

Im not trying to scare you off, but the best method is probably education, so you can do it yourself safely.

Just out of Curiosity, what happens when you put WD40 in the fill nipple?

You set fire to yourself with an explosion. And yes it has happened.

And maybe the people around you aswell.

High Pressure air and oil do not mix with nice results.

Just be careful out there everyone!

With the proviso that these pics may or may not be the same incident, and in the case of the vest the guy concerned did not oil his fill nipple as he very much knew better ....
These pictures are from my 'safety gallery'

Contamination inside the cylinder is bad
Oil inside an air cylinder at high pressure, with heat = a Diesel engine

Lessons have been learned since then

That's why you should not fast fill, when filling from empty do it in a few goes pausing in between - not one constant full, don't contaminate the nipple, fit a nipple cover .... Etc
