Regs don't cross thread themselves, i've been doing this 14 or 15 years and never had that issue. You must have really had to force it to make it go on in the first place, then forced it even further to get it back off again.
To me, @fintan harding has paid for and received the marker in good condition and in good time, as advertised. You've then damaged it and sent it back expecting a refund? I'd be inclined to say you should be paying to repair the marker in all honesty.
