10-32 tap to m5?

Seeing as the two threads are very close could i run a m5 tap through the 10-32 thread, or would neither type of screw fit particulary well?

The 3/16 unf 10-32 thread is roughly 0.25mm smaller that 5mm, but the pitch of the two threads is nearly exactly the same.

So you could run a 5mm tap through the 10-32 hole, but the original 10-32 bolt will be very loose.

Why the question, are you having trouble sourcing 10-32 screws.

i have more than enough screws. Just cant find a 10-32 tap anywhere. (don't want to buy a whole set just for one tap)

I wouldn't recommend a 5mm tap then, as this will leave the 10-32 screw very loose.
