A Letter from Michael Moore to George W. Bush on the Eve of War

George W. Bush
1600 Pennsylvania Ave.
Washington, DC

Dear Governor Bush:

So today is what you call "the moment of truth," the day that "France and the rest of world have to show their cards on the table." I'm glad to hear that this day has finally arrived. Because, I gotta tell ya, having survived 440 days of your lying and conniving, I wasn't sure if I could take much more. So I'm glad to hear that today is Truth Day, 'cause I got a few truths I would like to share with you:

1. There is virtually NO ONE in America (talk radio nutters and Fox News aside) who is gung-ho to go to war. Trust me on this one. Walk out of the White House and on to any street in America and try to find five people who are PASSIONATE about wanting to kill Iraqis. YOU WON'T FIND THEM! Why? 'Cause NO Iraqis have ever come here and killed any of us! No Iraqi has even threatened to do that. You see, this is how we average Americans think: If a certain so-and-so is not perceived as a threat to our lives, then, believe it or not, we don't want to kill him! Funny how that works!

2. The majority of Americans -- the ones who never elected you -- are not fooled by your weapons of mass distraction. We know what the real issues are that affect our daily lives -- and none of them begin with I or end in Q. Here's what threatens us: two and a half million jobs lost since you took office, the stock market having become a cruel joke, no one knowing if their retirement funds are going to be there, gas now costs almost two dollars -- the list goes on and on. Bombing Iraq will not make any of this go away. Only you need to go away for things to improve.

3. As Bill Maher said last week, how bad do you have to suck to lose a popularity contest with Saddam Hussein? The whole world is against you, Mr. Bush. Count your fellow Americans among them.

4. The Pope has said this war is wrong, that it is a SIN. The Pope! But even worse, the Dixie Chicks have now come out against you! How bad does it have to get before you realize that you are an army of one on this war? Of course, this is a war you personally won't have to fight. Just like when you went AWOL while the poor were shipped to Vietnam in your place.

5. Of the 535 members of Congress, only ONE (Sen. Johnson of South Dakota) has an enlisted son or daughter in the armed forces! If you really want to stand up for America, please send your twin daughters over to Kuwait right now and let them don their chemical warfare suits. And let's see every member of Congress with a child of military age also sacrifice their kids for this war effort. What's that you say? You don't THINK so? Well, hey, guess what -- we don't think so either!

6. Finally, we love France. Yes, they have pulled some royal screw-ups. Yes, some of them can be pretty damn annoying. But have you forgotten we wouldn't even have this country known as America if it weren't for the French? That it was their help in the Revolutionary War that won it for us? That our greatest thinkers and founding fathers -- Thomas Jefferson, Ben Franklin, etc. -- spent many years in Paris where they refined the concepts that lead to our Declaration of Independence and our Constitution? That it was France who gave us our Statue of Liberty, a Frenchman who built the Chevrolet, and a pair of French brothers who invented the movies? And now they are doing what only a good friend can do -- tell you the truth about yourself, straight, no b.s. Quit pissing on the French and thank them for getting it right for once. You know, you really should have traveled more (like once) before you took over. Your ignorance of the world has not only made you look stupid, it has painted you into a corner you can't get out of.

Well, cheer up -- there IS good news. If you do go through with this war, more than likely it will be over soon because I'm guessing there aren't a lot of Iraqis willing to lay down their lives to protect Saddam Hussein. After you "win" the war, you will enjoy a huge bump in the popularity polls as everyone loves a winner -- and who doesn't like to see a good ass-whoopin' every now and then (especially when it 's some third world ass!). So try your best to ride this victory all the way to next year's election. Of course, that's still a long ways away, so we'll all get to have a good hardy-har-har while we watch the economy sink even further down the toilet!

But, hey, who knows -- maybe you'll find Osama a few days before the election! See, start thinking like THAT! Keep hope alive! Kill Iraqis -- they got our oil!!

Yours,

Michael Moore

Nope the whole of Impulseownersonline are aswell :)

Im not against the removal of Saddam - i think anyone would agree this sick man and his leaders need to be smacked down.

Its just the hypocritcal action that Bush and Blair are taking. One rule for another etc....

TJ do you seriously think Osama's gone? According to news reports this morning they are certain they hit saddams bunker, killing / injurying him?

and the same was said about osama on various occasion during the attack on Al-queda, but still no proof. (i want his head, put on a spike outside the white house before i believe it!! ;) )

That's what I like to see, a nice, balanced opinion showing respect for other people's views...there's a debate going on below involving people respecting each other's views, even when they disagree - you might want to try it some time.

why is the actions of blair and bush hypocritical? In all of those peace marches that have been going on around the world how many iraqi's do you think joined in?!?! most liely less than 1000 in the whole world. Also it isn't the iraqi's we are after, it the leadership which kills it's own people for being a minority, with i might add some pretty horrible chemicals, the leadership which tortures and kills it's people for having am opinion and also holds food aid that the Red cross and other charities send in. The leadership that won't give medicine to the kurds because it doesn't like them. Many more children are dying of cancer and other such illnesses in iraq than are dying in this war. So i am proud to say that i support our boys and tony blair. Our boys will be the ones fighting for another peoples country. Be happy you can express your opinions without fear of persecution or torture...

Old School, New Tricks
One American's perspective

I'm not sure what to make of all this. Back in '91 I worked in radio when Bush Sr. started this the first time. I worked at the college radio station, and listened to AP news while chewing on pizza tending the board for a night. Then I had to actually pull LP's and make a show once the first 36 hours broke down to "No new news yet."

Back then, we had CNN dishing out hte same disinformation they're doing now. Let me tell you, I don't buy what CNN is airing now as what's really happening. Right now they've got some guy named Waler Rodgers blathering on about how "powerful" the invasion force is. "If the Iraqis don't give up, they will be pounded." he just said. Let me tell you, this is not news as much as it's propeganda. I can't help but think of a song by the Who. "Meet the new boss. Same as the old boss." It's no diffrent than what I did back in college.

Did they "Get" Saddam? Who knows. Keep in mind that 9/11 wwe were told in the first few hours that the death toll could be upwards of 15,000 or more bodies. Misinformation and guesswork being passed for news is the rule of the day right now, and I know it. So I'm taking every "news break" with a lot of salt.

I also take anything on the net that's written by a famous person with the same ammount of salt too. I use snopes.com a lot with some of it. Many things have been attributed to Dennis Miller and George Carlin, and they never wrote it. In the case of Moore, the jury is still out.

IMHO : I agree with the points made in the letter. But, righ tnow, our elected cowboy wants his time. Hell, he "Called Saddam Out"! the only thing missing is the 6-shooter and the "High Noon" time limit. Oh, wait....

I don't know. It will make life more intresting for a while, anyway. I'm just hoping that paintball doesn't take a hit again like we did the firrst time...

Not so much Blair, but the Fact that the USA refuse to comply with the UN Inspectors seems to me as a tad bit hypocritial.

Also, America i quote

"Respected scientists on both sides of the Atlantic warned yesterday that the US is developing a new generation of weapons that undermine and possibly violate international treaties on biological and chemical warfare"

The leadership that won't give medicine to the kurds because it doesn't like them. Many more children are dying of cancer and other such illnesses in iraq than are dying in this war
Why are they dying form Cancer?

"The Dutch Laka Foundation estimates that the United States left behind 300-800 tons of radioactive waste from this ammunition all over Kuwait and Iraq — poisoning the air, the land, the water and the people everywhere.

Afterwards, wherever the depleted uranium firing had been concentrated, there were cancer epidemics among Iraqi civilians living nearby. In the years since then, the sanctions, polluted water and depleted uranium together have killed somewhere between 1,000,000 and 2,000,000 Iraqi civilian people. At least 600,000 of the dead are children under five years-old. Cancer rates have quadrupled in areas of southern Iraq bombed by the American and British army.

The American/British gulf war campaign continues to this day.

Since it began, thousands of Iraqi babies have been born with horrible birth defects. This is something that has never before been seen in Iraq.

More than 120,000 American Gulf War veterans are chronically ill — suffering from Gulf War Syndrome. A U.S. Department of Veterans study of 251 veteran’s families found that 67% had children with severe illnesses or birth defects. "

I support our men, because a) they are innocent people b)they havent got anything to do with the polititics behind this war.

What pi$$es me of intensly is the peaceniks and nayyyy sayers who constantly claim the moral highground. These vociferous idiots always claim to have the support of the masses, do they?, have they taken a referendum?, i doubt it.

Since we binned the UN route, support for military action in Iraq actually increased in this country. I bet if you took an opinion poll now, I think you see a huge increase in the number of people who support military action to oust a cruel dictatorship. Sure 700,000 people protesting against the war is a huge amount (not the 1 million claimed), but what about the other 58 million in the UK.

Everybodies entitled to their point of view, but don't claim the support of the masses when you don't actually have it.

And this vociferous minority, seem to have an exceptionally short memory when it comes to France and it's allies on the Security Council. The french only ever act in National Interest (they have oil production agreements with the current Iraqi regime on hold due to sanctions), and often illegally (Rainbow Warrior incident). I don't see these as being the peaceful virtuous people the great unwashed of this country seem to favour. If anybody got's oil interests at heart it's likely to be the French.

Oh and did anybody notice that the French have also sent a military force to the Gulf. Bit of an odd thing to do isn't it, or when victory seems certain, are the French gonna offer some support?

Sure each country has their own interests at heart, and sure the French can have theirs, however I'm sick to the teeth of people claiming this and that about so & so. And the most ridiculous arguement I've heard from the peace loving fairies is this is war no-one else in the world wants. Well I am f*cking sorry, but I don't remember voting for the current French government at the last English election. Or that of Belgium, Germany, Italy, Malaysia, Syria etc etc etc. British government policy must not be dictated to by other nations, and is only accountable to the electorate of this country.

Right rant over, to summerise my point, everyone / country can have their own opinion, but I resent those who constantly assume and claim to have support they do not.
