So my friend has his air bottle that is passing air past the pressure guage - im not new with these air systems - just wondering though if i'm able to remove the guage and PTFE it back in or locktite it it myself or would i be best sending it away, the bottle isnt charged and all in date etc. Cheers guys Gary
Is the air actually leaking from the guage itself or just from the threads where it screws in to the reg? If its just leaking from the threads I would just clean and ptfe tape it back in. If not just get a new guage.
thanks that what i wanted to know just wanted to see if its a job im able to do or send it off, ive changed a fill nipple before
Now, I don't know the tank in question but theres a difference between; Thread leak at the gauge, the gauge leaking through/by the glass edge, or leaking through a small pin hole, which is kind of behind the gauge on some regs. but which can feel like a thread leak. number 1, remove gauge, PTFE the threads, and turn it back in. 5 min job number 2, replace gauge with a new one. 2 min job number 3, take apart your regulator completely and inspect/change the broken Oring on the inside. They get worn . 10 min job.
If it's a myth reg you may find it's coming from a small hard to see vent hole behind the gauge and not the gauge thread, if it is it means one of the piston o rings or seat needs changing inside the reg, this seems to be a common issue with myth regs.
