I read somewhere in another post/thread that apparent DOT bottles that are marked HSE-AL-FW2 are legal and usable in the United Kingdom.

Is this correct?

The bottle DOES not have the Pi symbol, instead states HSE-AL-FW2, DOT-E11194 and TC-SU 5303.

Regarding the question in the header:

DOT is the US standard, TC Canadian, Pi European
HSE is British and precedes Pi

With a 15 year lifespan for fibres and unlimited for aluminium/steel you could still find HSE cylinders active in the UK if their tests are up to date (I havent seen one)
