new breakout

rancid

Mother, is that you?
Getting back to Cuma's original point. Anybody old enough to remember the Eagles - Rafe Farmer etal? Their breakout consisted of them running out and carrying on running out, right over your line. Some of the most exciting pball I've ever seen. Unfortunately it sometimes meant they got penalty pointed for running on. I remember a tourny in Birmingham where by the fourth game they were on -1240 pts.

Hmmmm, none of you guys know a lot about WWII do ya?
By the time ('44) the Western Allies (UK, Canada, USA, some others) invaded France, the Germans were already losing. They made the stupid mistake of invading that vast expanse of land called the Soviet Union. The Ivans beat the Krauts at Moscow (41),Stalingrad (42), Kursk (43), and some other places without any help from Yanks/Brits/whomever. As a matter of fact, they received some US tanks (M4 Shermans, M3 Lees) as part of the lend lease agreement, but when they saw them, they just giggled a little, because these designs were so crap compared to their own. As for the English buying old war stuff of the US, that's not true, they got it fresh from the factory. The Yanks however, had to buy old, obsolete escort ships off of the Brits, to counter the U-boat threat at the beginning of hostilities. Having taken American History is not going to do you much good in this sort of discussion, because as the name suggests, it's a bit biased. By the way, it is true that the US came up with a plan to GIVE money to some European countries (the Marshall Aid Plan, named after General George C. Marshall, Chief of Staff, US Army) because they were broke, but that's no surprise when your country has been blitzed and bombed by both the Allies and the Germans. We must not forget that the only reason the USA decided to get involved in the war in Europe is because A) Hitler had decided to declare war on the USA, and B) If the Western Allies did not liberate at least part of Europe, the entire continent was at risk of falling under the Soviet sphere of influence, and that bitter rivalry that resulted in the cold war had already begun way before WWII ever started.
I must agree with the statement that the Vietnam war was in fact not a war. No declaration of war had been done by either side, and if it were indeed a real war, the US would have invaded the north. The reason for not doing so is simple, the risks of drawing either China or the USSR into the conflict were simply too great.
As far as not loosing a war is concerned.......well......Korea was a stalemate. We'll call it a draw (one which badly dented western morale, because in our simple minds not winning equals losing).

That's it for now, because this is the wrong forum for this kind of stuff. Latorz!
