Would the plane take off?

Because it doesn't make one iota of difference to the length of runway the plane would need. BECAUSE IT'S NOT THE AMOUNT OF LAND PASSING THE WHEELS THAT GETS A PLANE AIRBORNE, IT'S THE AIRSPEED!

Sometimes in life, the things that are hardest to accept are those that are counter-intuitive .... the laws of physics speak for them-self but they always adhere to sound logical premises [except of course quantum mechanics] and so in the case of the plane taking off or not, whether you like it or not, the plane is gonna fly like a bird regardless of how fast the treadmill's gonna go.
Jay [Buddah 3] has explained it extremely well and if you don't agree with his explanation, I'm afraid this is one occasion when you just have to accept it and just put it down to the problem being just outside your remit of understanding.
I saw the episode of mythbusters where they did this and it's quite surprising just how many people maintain the plane won't lift off even after it's been explained to them.

Thats the beauty of this thread, I thought it was a done deal after 8 pages, and then it kicked off again! One guy telling us his cousin was a pilot, and it would def not take off. This thread amazed me on so many levels. One guy called someone a retard because he didnt agree with his (wrong) opinion. Even with video proof some people couldnt get over the treadmill red herring.
