SubCs.... hmmmm.... yum. Definitely possible if I further reduce the Halo's capacity to... say.... 100 shots... hahaha...

Whilst we're on the subject, have u noticed that if u take an old S148 Futaba high speed/high torque servo and remove the potentiometer, it flies round a damn sight faster than anything in a Revvy/Egg? :D

Nice! :)

I went for simply stripping and replacing the nasty bronze bushings in my old revy for some random, small, Ballrace bearings! That helped:D

wow, talk about tech head overload!

ok so if i have nicad rechargeables, these are better than nimh?

but to truly reap the benefit i'd need to modify the hopper to run 8 batteries?

but alkalines are better overall?

ooooh errrr guess i'll jus have to suck it up an buy a party pack of durocells or equivalents:D

Well Nicads are good but Nimh's are better, have a high capacity.

Lithium cells are good but not much use for high drain devices yet.
Lithium polymer gel is very nice, extremely small, but really only used in phones and other more mainstream electonics.

The there's hydrogen fuel cel.....just kidding, duracells, the only way to fly!

just a quick point, rechargable batts have a memory and if you just use them and charge them eventually they belive that they are flat when they are not. you should regularly run them to completely flat that way they always charge and recharge from empty to full. does that make sense, its the same with mobile phone batts.

Not strictly true... :D

Mobile phone batteries now use Lithium Ion, which altho they are fantastic for longevity, have a limited "number of charges" before they die. It doesn't really matter how you charge them, they will die after about the same amount of charges.

Also, the "memory effect" isn't that the batteries believe they are flat - it is due to the chemical process that occurs during charging/discharging. Hydrogen gas is a by-product of the charging process, and one of two things can happen:

1) The battery is charged too quickly, and the hydrogen gas "vents". This means that during discharge, you have physically lost the ability for the reverse chemical process to take place, ie, you capactiy is immediately reduced. There's is nothing you can do about this once it happens - the only way to prevent it is to avoid venting the cells during charging by charging slowly, or stopping once a tell-tale "full" condition is detected. This is why good "fast" chargers cost a lot of money. I've never seen such a charger outside of specialist applications - don't expect to find one in Maplins. :D

2) The buildup of hydrogen gas reacts with the electrolyte used in the cell (differs depending on the type of battery) and creates a corrosive substance, which corrodes the plates (annode/cathode...can't remember which).
Surface area of these plates is proportional to the capactiy, so corrosion is NOT good. This CAN be counteracted to some extent, by deep-cycling the batteries (ie, completely discharging them and then charging them fully), but this can also lead to "reverse polarity" if not done properly.
NiCads are most susceptible to this type of memory effect, and NiMHs are less so. LiIons are gonna wear out way before any memory effect becomes noticeable (they're not high drain enough) so people who do this "deep cycling" on their phones have been told a load of cobblers by some muppet with all of 20minutes training from a "phone consultant". ;)

wonder what would happen if i replaced the servo in my revvy with a reed fury motor (still got one in my old TLO1)?? should make for a laugh, 10,000 rpm revvy? yes please!

it might not be the batterys mate i know loads of halos have had a problem with frying boards not sure why but i know thats the reason no more are being made, best bet is to send it back where you bought it from and get their oppinion.

eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek hope it ain't a frying board.

still all seems to be ok now, i've just done 3000 paint last sunday, without probs on normal dry cell batteries. no flashing red light to be seen. in fact theres still life in the batteries now.

thanks for all your advice peeps
