tank rehyroding all 3 stamps

is there anywhere in the uk that will test your tank to give you all 3 stamps(pi/dot/tc)

From what I remember, it's a metal stamp on the born date then 2 adhesive re test stickers then death?

The multiple stamps are international standards for the design build of the cylinder. To get approved the manufacturer has to go through the approvals process of the appropriate standards organizations. It may meet or exceed those standards but if not put to them at the time of manufacturer then it can't be added later

The hydro test is like an mot, it checks that the individual cylinder is still within its design constraints (visually check for any damage and then hydro test that it does not expand too much under extreme pressure)

Typically 15 year maximum life, with tests at the 5 year points for fibre wrap
It you miss a test then you aren't allowed to use it until tested.
You can test more often if required (e.g. You drop it and test to ensure it's not affected)
A late test cannot extend life beyond the final date

Standard aluminium can be used forever with no final date, provided they are in good visual condition and are tested when required. (Not necessarily financially viable to retest as they are cheap enough to buy) UKPSF information states 5 years, but there may be a 10 year allowance

There are other situations:

old ultra light bottles had short life and no testing, but off the top of my head i think any current model of ultra light is testable.

13ci aluminium is exempt from retesting, and can therefore be used forever whilst it's in good condition

right so at the moment if you buy a tristamed tank.
when the rehydro date is due you will lose all 3 certs and be left with just one cert as at the moment we cant send it for a test the exeeds past all 3 certs,am i right?

If it's already a tri-standard cylinder the hydro test checks it is still within the specifications
It will still be a multi marked cylinder, and be in date by test

The 'no' was that a test will not give all 3 standards. You can't add a standard, but if it already has those standards from manufacture then it remains dual or tri standard


The hydro test checks that it does not expand more than a specific amount
Some cylinders have an amount of expansion marked on them and the test will ensure that's not exceeded. if not marked then it's checked that it doesn't expand beyond a standard amount

ah,so if you buy a tristamed tank and rehydro it on just say only a pi cert then carries all 3 certs get carried over?.
but if you just buy a pi stamped tank(single cert) you cant add anymore certs to that tank its just a pi stamp until deth no matter what you do.

This is a bit old and American, but it's pretty much the same
At about 1:15 he points out the REE markings which specify that particular cylinder type must not expand more than 15.4 cc throughout the test


The standard markings aren't necessarily a higher or lower standard, but are that the cylinder is approved for transportation of compressed gasses in the country / region.
