For example a tank has 3 months left b4 it's death date would a new test over ride that date or would it still be scrap after 3 months ?

New test would give a label that states the date when it needs to be destroyed. For example I had a tank that had a year and a half on it. I had it tested and I got the extra time but it clearly stated the destruction date and now is dead to me

Any decent event that checks bottles before they're allowed to be used wouldn't let you use it past the death date no matter how long it has on test, there is no extra time.

My understanding is that not all testing places add when the next test/death is due. Many just add the date that the test occured.

Tbh if the cylinder only has a few months left till it's death date then getting it retested would be a waste of cash. Just invest in a new cylinder

Confused. isn't that what I said? I said that I had a bottle that had a year and a half before death date that was out of hydro, When I had it hydroed to give me a bit of time (it was cheaper to do that for a year and a half than buy a new rig) they placed a very specific sticker on it that stated the death date and specified that the bottle should be destroyed after that date. So I got my year and a half, there was no extra time and the test not only established that but stated it clearly on the test sticker

You said
I got the extra time
that's where the confusion started, if you merely meant you used it right up to the death date why say you got the extra time. In my and most peoples vocabulary " extra" means something added on or a bonus.
