MY BUDDY GOT HURT TODAY WHEN USING A STAKO TANK TODAY IN THE UK. THE TANK EXPLODED, AND HE COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED. IM NOT GOING TO GET INTO THE POLITICS OF WHO WAS AT FAULT FOR THE EXPLOSION, I JUST WANT TO SHARE SOME SAFETY INFO. JUST SO THAT YOU KNOW, THERE WAS NO OIL PUT INTO THE FILL NIPPLE. THE PLAYER IS A SEASONED PRO WITH OVER A DECADE OF EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE UNDER HIS BELT.
I AM BIASED TOWARDS THE STAKO BRAND BECAUSE OF SEVERAL INCIDENTS, BOTH PUBLICIZED AND NOT, THAT HAS CAUSED FATALITIES AND SERIOUS INJURIES TO PLAYERS. OTHER D.O.T. CERTIFIED AMERICAN BRANDS HAVE HAD THEIR SHARE OF ISSUES AS WELL. THERE IS A METHOD THAT IS USED THAT CAN ELIMINATE INJURIES IF WE ALL TAKE A FEW SECONDS TO CHECK THINGS OUT. IT CAN MAKE THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN LIFE AND DEATH:
According to American Paintball League Standards, Tanks must be inspected by certified air fill station attendants, and every player is responsible for checking out their own kit!!!
This is how you conduct a proper safety inspection and valve twist test:
LOOK CLOSELY AT YOUR TANK FOR DENTS, SCRATCHES AND GOUGES. ANY TANK CONTAINING A SCRATCH DEEPER THAN .003 OF AN INCH, A GOUGE OR DENT DEEPER THAN .006 SHOULD BE DISCARDED ASAP AND NEVER USED AGAIN, PERIOD!!!

LOOK AT THE SIDES CLOSELY, AND THE ASS, TOO. CHECK FOR FIBER WEAR AND/OR PEELING. FOR STEEL TANKS, NO MORE THAN 25% OF THE TANK CAN BE COVERED WITH RUST FOR IT TO BE DEEMED SAFE FOR FILLING.
<a href="http://s91.photobucket.com/albums/k286/bighec_45/?action=view¤t=a11dc4f4.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k286/bighec_45/a11dc4f4.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
TWIST THE VALVE OF YOUR TANK. PUT SOME MAN INTO IT. IF IT IS LOOSE, OR UNSTABLE, DO NOT USE!!! IF POSSIBLE SCREW BACK IN GENTLY AND TAKE YOUR TANK TO A QUALIFIED AIRSMITH FOR PROFESSIONAL INSPECTION!!!!
<a href="http://s91.photobucket.com/albums/k286/bighec_45/?action=view¤t=df015c5f.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k286/bighec_45/df015c5f.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
NEVER, EVER put oil or anything else into your fill nipple!!! it can make your take EXPLODE!!! NEVER ALTER, MODIFY OR DISSASEMBLE THE BURST DISK ASSEMBLY!!
<a href="http://s91.photobucket.com/albums/k286/bighec_45/?action=view¤t=055f6cc1.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k286/bighec_45/055f6cc1.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
what i do in all of my tanks is draw a straight line from my reg into the tank. I use this line as a guide to tell me if the tank reg is un aligned. this little indicator makes a big difference, and can be done in mere seconds with nail polish, or a permanent marker. Redo if faded.
<a href="http://s91.photobucket.com/albums/k286/bighec_45/?action=view¤t=823b4e3e.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k286/bighec_45/823b4e3e.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
Please friends, be careful when screwing AND unscrewing your tanks. If it does not want to unscrew for your gat, take it to an airsmith before you torque away at it. This is how fatalities has occured!

Good to see you online mate - how ya getting on?

And how the hell did you go through all that and NOT get a bed bath... ?;)
.
Hey mate,
Have been online all day just seeing what people are saying and seeing if I can make any sense of it all. I cant make head nor tail of it.
As for the bed bath, you know me, dont want to make a fuss :)

I am judging the 1.5 second flash filling !!
Which should be an impossibilty on all compressors if the correct regulators are fitted.

At the end of the day you can flash fill at most sites by accident, all it takes is to move a lever 1/32 of an inch extra and hey presto.

Why don't we concentrate on getting the compressors to fill the bottle slower and safer??

Have you been to the site and used the fill station fella?

If so, you'd have seen it is nowhere near a 1.5 second flash fill.

Yes, it's pretty quick if you just dump the lever down, but if you've been told 1.5 seconds, I think somebodys having you on. :)

For people that are not 100% clear on how dangerous this was today, it was a miracle that somebody did not die. I don't think I am exagerating.

The thing that probably made the most difference was that the guy was filling the gun with the bottle pointed towards the ground.

If he was filling with his bottle pointed towards him then half of my team would have been showered by the guys guts. I don't mean to be nasty here, but people worried that they might have to buy a new bottle need to wake up and realise what is important. To be honest I consider my life, my friends lives and my girlfriends life considerably more important that whether you are allowed to use a super light weight bottle - you know what, I don't even need proof - it is THAT important to me.

Somebody upstairs seemed to be looking out for us 'ballers today.

Please people, lets get this sorted before our luck runs out.

--- If it helps in a diagnosis there were several eye witness accounts that there was a red flash, no real flames that anyone saw, but lots of sparks - like somebody using a grinder when it went off.
Was thinking the same thing Si... We were the staged between yourselves and the compressor, and was stood talking to Kitch when it all happend. I was talking to my brother on the way home, and we both realised that we hold the bottle facing our Stomach/ribs and without even realising it!!... thats the scariest thing, you do things without realising. Also like Gran said, it could have been a whole lot worse, and i think i feel the same as Gran when he says i dont really want to witness that again. Me personally i saw a firball, heard a bloddy loud bang, and the place litterally shook like a scene from a war film!..

Glad your ok Nige, see you at the next event mate!

Hmmm so you were there at 2 of the 3 Stako possibly related incidents.......

Coincidence, I think not... Ban or recall keka, it's the only way to prevent any other happenings :p
If me not being there would stop these things from exploding, I would gladly stay away from paintball for good.

ok guys leading on from hec post. sorry hec robbed your pictures and re hosted them. i think there is a formula here. and i will be dropping Hpac a pm and asking them to do a full tech thread with pics of how to inspect and check your own tank and reg. Nigel i know you will NOT think this is aimed at you, but as a tool for us all to have the CORRECT method for checking your bottle.
as there are alot of new players who can just come on here and buy a used bottle. so knowledge is king guys.
