Missy your vouch for the men of paintball ,does'nt get round the point that the NXL are about to pay a substantial amount of money for something that already exists and is going to change hands .This means it ,the mills will have to generate funds to repay the large sum.
You're guessing.
My own 'guess' is that there was not a large sum paid, and that it fact the league came pretty cheap, in which case the argument would be moot.

I'm not an advocate for consolidation though. I want something completely different. A solution that brings the industries entrepreneurs back to the forefront, and offers opportunities for someone new (or old) to make a name for themselves in a new open market, while preserving the glory-draw of true major events.

Hi Robbo,
I was not suggesting the NXL was taking over everything, just the major part of the tournament scene.
My point was that every other aspect of the sport will remain independent and therefore unaffected by any consolidation of the international tournament scene and that the NXL doing that should give us a vehicle to bring more people into the sport and therefore make paintball more mainstream and thereby bring in outside sponsorship...

One of the posts was suggesting any consolidation was paving the road to a corporate take over of paintball as a whole etc... corporate vampires and such. I don't see the NXL being able to do that as they do not affect anything but 1 aspect of the tournament scene but if it becomes the dominant series, they become leaders, not monopolists.

So as far as I am concerned the NXL coming to Europe is a good thing because it is a win-win for the sport... as long as they keeping the best interests of the sport in mind.

Having interviewed people from UK, Iceland, Malta, Singapore, Australia and the US in the past 2 months, it is becoming increasingly clear that we need something to unify the sport in some way or else we will continue on the way we have for the past 30 years where we are pulled in different directions by every person with a personal agenda and in the end get nowhere and stagnate...

The only way to really unify the sport, without creating a monopoly, is to have one form of the tournament scene running things for a while. NPPL dragged us so far and then fragmented. Hopefully NXL will be the next series to drag us into the international arena and the recognition and growth that comes with it.

I make no guess as to an exact amount .But in any business takeover ,where one party approaches another to buy their holding ,they have to offer over the current market valuation to get them to sell something that prior to that offer they had not intended to sell. So if you want to be pedantic about the bid description ,it would be "premium or above market worth.Unless you think Laurent ,Barry and Steve are happy to give away their biggest asset.

Unless they wanted shut of it. They've been at it for twenty-odd years, so they might just want a nice sit down.

Without wishing to be more pedantic - that's another guess (or 2).

I'm sure the NXL are well aware of Steve and Laurent's situation with the MS, and it's true to say the greater leverage is held by the NXL but that don't mean to say they got it at a knock-down price.
The thing is, if Steve and Laurent don't get the money they feel is justified then they just dig their heels in and continue promoting MS events thus blocking the NXL.
It makes more sense for both parties to negotiate a reasonable price whereupon everybody walks away from the table smiling.
Paris will be the last MS event !!
A sad day indeed .....

PS Missy, I'll respond tomorrow mate.

No information on how much but my info (from the MOST reliable source) is that the NXL and Millenium have reached an agreement to merge... Next year it will be NXL and the name Millenium will be dropped.
Not sure when it is to be officially announced...

Caused a bit of fuss at the European association (I cannot remember the right bloody acronym for it) meeting according to another very reliable source.

I am actually not sure if I was allowed to pass that information on but as I was not sworn to secrecy about the interview...
