The RPS Advantage shell may be partly an attempt towards it - some people claim the matte finish makes them fly better. The new Evil paint comes with the same shell.

Blimey, you guys really know your science, I just thought you could aim the phasers at the dillithium crystals and your away.

A Serious question though re Dimpled Paintballs, rather than using Dimples, Golf Balls are now using Hexagon combination outer shells (there like 300 hexagons in a special pattern, not actually hexagon in shape - although that might make for interesting putting!). These reduce drag and will give increased air-time on a flatter trajectory. These balls absolutely rip!!!! Not that I care anymore, I was fortunately saved from a life of plus fours, bourgeois repressionist Golf boredom by Paintball earlier this year.

I was wondering if this was a production possibility for Pballs???? Or is this another prohibitively expensive option?

Oh also, Mr Pink, if your still checking your mail's, I've been trying to mail you but keep getting bummed!!!, send me a PM.

Cheers Dude

Rifling will only work if the ball is very tight in the barrel. And I mean VERY tight. And like someone else said paintballs are not perfectly spherical and also weigh slightly more on one plane (where the two halves of the shell join).

I dont think there will be any improvement over the plain tube as a barrel until the paintballs themselves undergo radical change (maybe some sort of sabot on them?)

Crom-dubh man,

Do you think we should have the depleted uranium innards though????

Only joking, now we are getting dangerous!!!!

Seriously, and I'm not a ballistic expert, but even if Sabot's were cost effective and indeed possible, the flight trajectory is massively different. Gun ballistics are (I think) different for standard bullets and Sabot's. Normal bullets fly on a parabolic arc (i.e. initially up then dropping off over distance), whereas Sabots fly virtually straight. Interesting enough Sabot's rounds are regarded as less accurate over range than standard match grade ammunition. I know that a Swedish company specialises in building a sniper rifle that fires Sabot rounds, but the MOA is less than conventional rounds, I also think it maybe a hard target weapon anyway (although over 1000 yards I'm not sure if this even equates to Pball).

Hmmmmm, now I'm scaring myself and I'm going to flagilate myself in the men's room.

Oh-----arghhhhhhh

LOL dude

OK the sabot was a joke. But on a serious note I think there was some research on rugby ball shaped paint. Dunno what feeder would be needed though.

Kinda, figured you were dude, mind you I was sitting there trying to work out a way of getting a ejectable shell / membrane on the paintball - how sad am I.

Rugger shaped paintballs, would'nt they hurt even more if they got you with the pointy bit???? Even more worrying would be if someones running a "Hot Marker" and starting converting the Super Air barricades!!!!

How about a cardboard tube which is split lenghthways fitting round the ball...... Damn too much time on my hands.

To be honest as long as everyone is having to fight agaist the laws of physics it shouldnt matter How accurate paintblls are.

This may sound like a conspiracy theory but here goes.

Paintball companies don't want to produce an accurate ball or barrel. If some technology were created to give the shooter perfect accuracy, we wouldn't see back players shooting a case a game, and front players using strings of 10-15 to make sure they hit an exposed pack. If paintballs were that accurate, paint consumption would plummet, causing the paint companies to raise prices, making it more expensive to play. This may sound really x-files ish, but maybe these companies have had the these technologies for years, and have simply been afraid to release them.

The truth is out there....

Paintball was developed by the CIA and NSA at Area 51, from a spinnoff the MK Ultra Program. Now that the US Govt is run by Aliens, they decided to infect the Paintball and wider community using Paintballs, when the Paint breaks on your skin it releases a chemical / biological agent that infact turns you slowly into a Grey!!!!! Hence the more paintballs shot the greater chance of getting infacted!!!!!!!!!!

Now that would explain a few things!!!!!

No more drugs for this man!!!!!!
