What does walk on mean? Is it a discount? Does it mean you simply buy and walk on to a session? I hear a lot about it but Don't know what it actually means.

Walk on is a day, usually a Sunday, which a paintball field holds for players with their own paintball equipment.

Much like a punter day they welcome players who play paintball a bit more seriously. Usually play away from normal rental punters but they do use some of the same fields and sometimes play fields especially made for walk on players.

Places running walk on days also sometimes allow youto bring your own paint aswell as having paint available to buy from them on the day.

Hope that explains it.

It's confusing because we use the same word for a few similar meanings depending on context

A walkon or a walkon day would be a game for players with their own gear. Pricing structures will vary but expect to pay an entry fee and for paint in cases of 2000
The entry fee may include one case
You would usually also be able to play a walkon but rent the gear you don't already have

A walkon player is someone with their own gear

Some sites allow walkon players to play against normal rental punters, but if this is the case then they are likely to be paying the same prices and restricted to mechanical only or semi only

Walkon pricing is not always advertised by sites, they may show the punter pricing and mention that they do walkons asking you to enquire

Commonly there will be:

a punter price - the normal low entry with options for pre-ordering a greater amount of paint, then buying paint as you go

A club price - join the 'club' and membership is still for punter style pricing but perhaps with free entry for the year, plus possibly a bit of a saving on paint

A walkon price - a good saving, but probably a walkon fee plus 2000 paintballs for a similar price to a punter entry and 1000 paintballs

No question is stupid mate. If you don't know something just ask. That's what forums like this are here for.

As for bringing your own balls, I believe most places allow you to bring your own balls now. Best thing to do is check the website of the venue hosting the walk on or better still give them a ring.

At a true walkon you will normally expect a better choice of paint then just the standard punter day
check with the site for what they can offer

With regard to byo, you do end up with the need to get and look after your paintballs yourself. If it has to be sent to you then you're at the mercy of the courier. Easier if you can get to a shop and transport yourself
Unless the site paint isn't good, or you find a preferred brand then ask the walkon site what they can provide

Most true walkons will allow byo, but you could pay a little higher entry as the paint profit isn't going into the site
