Exactly my point - so is it a worthwhile investment getting a fixed-bore 14", if there's the chance that you won't have paint that fits it?

Actually, do people normally get Freaks in a variety of lengths too? That's a LOT of inserts to be floating around your kit bag! :D

Nah, I think there's a natty case to keep all your barrels and inserts in one place.

Probably another £50 just for that tho..

Ok the barrel length itself doesn't make any differance to either range or accuracy, that said though some people myself included find it easier to aim with a longer barrel (I use a 14") as long as you have a good 7" of unported barrel (this is for excelleration purposes) theres no differance between 10" or 16" and yes, I have tested this!

The freaks do have a case for all the inserts, 'most' people find a length they are happy with and stick with that.

You'll need to say more than that Joe Bob.

    I need links, etc. :p

    Anothing BOREing question... :D:D:D:D

So a Freak has inserts that are interchangeable for the BACK control section only, and the front is just a porting section - does this principle apply to fixed barrels?

ie, do fixed barrels also only have a graded bore-size for the back and a larger ported section up front?

    Most do - some don't.

They are usually reffered to as stepped bore barrels if they do

So for accuracy and performance, would a fixed bore barrel with a set size along its full length be better than a Freak-style system where the bore size is only known for the first couple of inches of the ball's journey through the barrel? Ignoring the fact that Freak inserts can shift slightly and possibly cause barrel breaks... :D

I'd hazard a guess at the answer being "yes", and thus why fixed bore barrels cost more...

Accuracy wise you probably wouldn't notice the difference (although I don't like Freaks as a barrel)

It will be more efficient but it would be louder than a stepped bore too.
