The chip isn't soldered on, just jack it up at one end then the other and it will come out easily, and as cliff said make sure you put it back in the correct way.

what if i accidently reversed the polarity while changing the battery(Really Dont think i did, but the only thing i can think of...), could have burnt out the resistors?
