It's not a ban as such - an interpretation of the position of where they sit on frangibility.

Ukpsf have not banned first strike, but given a position on how they feel 'shaped rounds' may sit. If you go to an ukpsf site then expect first strike to not be permitted. It does not prevent other sites from permitting first strike so you may find them permitted

Unless they get tested in a manner that places them as frangible or non frangible then expect no change, or at some point in the future when firearms laws get reviewed (it's been highlighted by the home office about reviewing all related legislation) at which point frangibility and lethality would get looked

I've not seen anything recently from ukpsf, but in the U.S. there was testing recently. This relates to a separate first strike issue due to exclusion of first strike by an insurer due to not being a paintball (not a sphere)
The testing undertaken is with regard to force & impact and the potential to submit for Astm standards to be redefined to not require a sphere

Final update on first strike
The report concludes first strike are frangible as defined in law, and are therefore paintball guns firing fs are legal in the U.K.

This doesn't mean other shaped rounds are frangible etc. (eg the one2one rounds that were out for a bit), and it doesn't mean all sites will let you use fs

It does mean that the ukpsf recognises fs, that there is valid testing in place to legitimize them, and that they will be usable again in more places
It's up to individuals sites and event organizers to decide if they will allow them to be used based on their insurance, suitability to the venue etc

Remember that if mixing both paintballs & fs (wg combined magazine and hopper) that fs fly faster and your paintballs will need to be at a lower velocity to keep your fs within the maximum velocity
If you're hit by a fs, it's maintained its velocity for longer so they aren't necessarily shooting hot because it comes faster
