Can anyone please tell me how a paintball gun is classified in the UK. In Sweden we have different classifications on air, spring and real guns, but how about UK?

A lot of Swedish ballers are going for the campaign cup with Ryan Air and with their new policy about Zero tollerance against guns we need to know if a paintball marker is classified as a gun in UK or not.

What will happen if we try to check in with our equipment at Stensted?
And yes, this is a NEW policy, we have always flown with RA before without any problems.

Any suggestions?

Thank's

Just check in as normal, we have flown into and out of Heathrow and Gatwick (8 times so far this year) and not had any problems. Dont tell the airline anything at all and they will have no cause for complaint. :)

Thats nothing, flying to toulouse on the Thursday our captain had his kit bag with his gun, air system and all his kit put on a bag to Paris, then taken off the plane and put onto a flight to Mexico! We didnt get the bag back till Sunday at 2 O Clock in the morning! The bag came back smelling of Tequila and Taco's...........looks like it had a great holiday!

we had to show our markers and air systems to the guy at stanstead, which passed alot of time

9 times out of 10, you can get ur bag/marker to where you want it to go no probs.

But there are some exceptions it depends on ur luck really!

A bit of advice though:

ALWAYS TAKE THE AIR SYSTEM COMPLETELY OFF THE MARKER, this is a must or ur lookin at killin 100-150 people when ur away up in the air

Another thing, if you have any copies of PGI or any other paintball magazine then put that at the top of ur suit case/bag, then that way if a member of security does open ur bag, first thing they will see is the paintball mag makin easier for ou to try and explain why you are taking a gun (essetially) onto an aircraft!

Hope dat helps

The reason for taking the AIR off the gun is that you can demonstrate that you are not smuggling anything inside the bottle. One of our guys went on the plane to Amsterdam with 3000psi in his bottle still connected to his gun and nothing happened to it.

When we flew to Germany I rang the airline and asked thema about taking paintabll equipment, they said to inform the person at the check in desk. when we arrived at the airport (early) we did this and got asked to go over to the security desk for them to check our paintball bags in. The guys at security were great even reffering to them as markers.
FLying from Germany back to Britain security was really tight but as we were late (damn traffic) we didn't mention anything about the paintball equipment, we even had a full bottle which we drained whilst checking the bags in, supprisingly no-one said a word. :)
We had no problems except for 1 bag going missing but we got this back a couple of days later.

When we flew out to Toulouse a few years ago, we mentioned before arriving at the airport that we were carrying paintball equipment. PGI helped a lot when explaining to the airport staff. We did fly from Newcastle though, so they are not easily worried :D

The French were a little more strict, but that was because we had our bottles in our hand luggage. Once we put them in our main cases everything was ok.
