You could set them off a little bit before someone gets too close. That way they will get hit, but not be close enough to get hurt.

they ARE dangerous... i only used them to start and finish games under strictly controlled conditions... I wouldn't let any players use them... The funny thing is they make a massive bang but only spray paint about 3 feet... and I wouldn't wanna be within 3 feet of one of them!

i dont know what kinda mines you were using You can buy them , and they are not very much different from a tippmann squadbuster grenade , except in a canister , they are not dangous at all , unless well... someone was sitting on the mine . I played with some that when you stepped on the top it punctured the canister and sent paint squirting out , nothing explosive or loud , just air pressure , maybie all arent like this , but they should be. These are NOT dangerous
