I also not ure in Maine too!! A bit of a trek for paintball practice in Kent, UK LOL :D

Again, both the '98 and the spyders are very well manufactured, sturdy and reliable starter paintguns. My first was a spyder and it was very good. Elrikos has a good point about going with the trend and then the chances are someone will be able to help you should something go wrong. But both are very popular anyway.

http://www.actionvillage.com has the new Kingman Aggressor on it for a reasonable price (same manufacturer as the spyder line)as well as the '98 for a good price. Both under $150

http://www.paintball-online.com/shop/product_information.asp?number=I-VUPTSA&variation=&back=yes has a good starter package, but I don't know much about the gun - search for reviews.

Remember - you can get electro's for under $200 now!! But you don't have to worry about the electronics with the a spyder or tippman. Happy hunting! :D

Also - What Paintball Gear is well worth picking up too to browse!
