As you put it that way you can fit 551 Ball bearings (551.782 if you want the cut one up)

Working:
Ball bearing Radius= 1.25mm
volume= (4/3)(pi)(radius)cubed
1 ball bearing volume= 8.181230869mm
1 meter/0.008.181230869 meter= 551.782

Been so long since i've done maths...... though I feel i've gone wrong.
The above calculations are correct, just not for this :p

Although, that answer seems too small, although I could be wrong

If lined up side by side, there would be 4 bearings per 1 cm, so in an area of 1cm2 there would be 16 bearings.

So, side by side at the bottom of the box, there would be 1600 bearings...

Is the answer to question 1; 320,000? Or close to that.

EDIT: Oops, why did I times it by 200? :p

1600 x 40, so 64,000?

So for surface area; 4(pi)r2... 4 x Pi x 1.25mm2.

= 19.63495408mm.

Above x 64,000 = 1256637.061mm <- Surface area.

All of that is probably wrong, and i've just wasted 10 mins :p

Ah right I see I was playing with the volume, I was going wrong way around it.

So Cook$ was right.

I thought you meant cooks was for the first part? :confused:

I'm trying to do the little calculations in my head.

The way they would stack, if they were in 'neatly' would be approx 7 layers of bearings per 1cm of height gained.

I've just realised were all forgetting the gaps beween the balls so far were thinking the balls stack like this:

Where they can be stacked like so:

#####

effectively adding another layer of balls in the box

Yeah, I thought of that too, but couldn't be bothered tryin to work that out so just went the easy way.

Yeah, I was taking that into account... But just realised i'd forgotten some 0's on my numbers :p

If this number ain't right, meh :p
