From experience;
Empty the tank and remove valve if poss. Otherwise be prepared to prove it is empty.
Remove the barrel
Take the battery out of the grip if you can.
TELL THEM you have a paintball MARKER - use PGI to demonstrate.
They are invariably more interested in the air tank than the marker - I found this to be the case pre and post 11/09.
Best advice - just chill. You may have never taken a marker on a plane before but many people have, 20, 30+ times and never had any real problems (oh apart from when they dont say anything that is - France 2 years ago - some Brit baller or other was forced to miss the flight).
So pack up yer markers in yer old kit bag and fly, fly fly.

you dont have to worry about taking your markers to other countries.
unfortunatly airport security is very poor. for instance we went to play the Polish open just 3 days after september 11th and i had my barrels in my carry on and was not stopped. and have only ever had my bag serched once! one of our players marker fell out of his bag at the airport in plain sight of everyone and no one took a bit of notice!!
generally most of the english teams playing will be on the same couple of flights so the airport knows about it anyway.
as long as your bottle is de-gassed (i didn't even bother to unscrew mine last time
) and you have a copy of pgi handy nothing will go wrong.
as mark said they are more interested in the compressed air or the possibility that you are smuggeling somthing in the bottle that the gun

Some guys of us had their markers in locked cases.
The rest had them inside their bags.
All the bags which contained markers didnt arrived in time ,later we were told that they held them for a day in Germany (our flight passed through there)
So it was on:
Thursday :walkin the fields ,no gunz
Friday : Played on afternoon ,and had just got the gunz in the morning. If we played in the morning? Oh-oh.....
DO EVERYTHING SAID ,BUT PUT YOUR MARKER AND TANK ON A CASE! At least that's what I'm doin'...

Errr hell no, all your pball gear should be in your large bag, not your carry on.
Customs in England dont seem to make a big deal of pball markers, last season i just threw all my stuff in my regular kit bag, took a pball mag, didnt even get asked what I had in my bag....
I also have a friend who works for customs, they find automatic weapons, drugs, illegal porn, even rocket launchers sometimes. Pball markers arnt a major issue peeps, calm the hell down!
The chances are if you go to an airport making a big deal out of the harmless chunk of alloy in your bag, then some bureaucratic, boy scout customs officer may decide to make a big deal of it too.
Flying with markers
Hi guys I know the post is specifically about Portugal but as you are talking about travelling with markers I'll add a story.
For the German leg, your markers should be F stamped they are hot on anything like a gun there and they aren’t too fond of paintball markers. We went to Bitburg by flying into Luxemburg last year, luck we had already sent our gear ahead because Paintball is Illegal in Luxemburg. The customs dude with a real gun was not to happy, finding about 20 markers in various team’s bags. Quote he said "paintball is illegal here I’m going to let you go but don't come back" nice.

I wont be doing mine this year either if i can help it.
This is not advice by the way guys, what Alan says is true - its up to you if you get it F stamped or not.
My view is that its a waste of time!!

To be honest I agree with Mark except if you are flying directly into Germany Just ask a couple of the Tigers who got held for a couple of hours by Interpol a few years ago.
