Hey

i am trying to fit a new fill nipple and a pressure gauge to my regulator.

but i am confused to how far i screw them on.

When i screw my pressure gauge on buy hand it stops and the gauge is upside down, and i am almost positive that is not screwed all the way in.

Same with the fill nipple i know it does not screw all the way in because the valve still opens and closes.

So is the threads tapered to stop them from being screwed all the way in.

so do you even screw them in tight or just back it off half a turn so it sits correctly and that the air pressure keeps them in place and that the sealent stops them leaking.

Many thanks for any help. (i am so confused)

Hi, first off remember you're working with high pressure air so you need to do things right.

Both the fill nipple and gauge screw into a tapered thread which is designed to tighten and form a seal along the length of the thread. Because of the high air pressure they have to handle you'll need to use an additional form of sealant such as loctite to get an air tight seal.
You'll need to screw them in far enough to give the joint a strong mechanical connection, as well as an air tight seal. Just hand tight is not enough for these parts, they need to be physically tight.
Don't back off at all, tighten to the position you want the gauge to be.
