Internal velocity dialler won't apply on older guns - you will have to shim or change springs

Other than that there's very little to go wrong. The Sterling was a simple, bullet proof design. Main draw back is lack of compatibility on barrel threads, making it very difficult to find any spares. The original Sterling breech thread is specific to that gun - not used on anything else. Later versions use the Spyder thread. Other than that just stick an air or Co2 tank on the back, paint in the hopper and pump away.

Thats the marker. Ive downloaded the manual and it seems i adjust velocity with the springs and shims. The only issue is i have neither of those things. Any idea where id find some?

Try http://www.arrow-precision.co.uk/Contact_us.html I don't know if they sell spring kits . But shims are just small washers really just take the hammer out take it to B&Q (or other hard ware store)
and find a washer that will drop in . note shims should be only used for small velocity changes as a large stack of washers may cause spring to bind.
Thanks for that advice mate. Ive bought a load of washers so ill see what they do. Should pump guns be able to reach 300fps or is that a pipe
dream?

A note on this - shim stacks are made up of Belleville washers.

Not normal washers. Normal washers will not work.

i don't know sterlings personally but by the looks of the picture its not a million miles from the Armson i have, if thats the case...

you should be able to wind the grey bolt our (to reveal more thread) the bolt would hit the Valve with more force and keep it open fractionally longer allowing more air to pass through the system at a greater speed. in tern launching the ball with more force.
I hope that made sense...

this video helped me get going
