Again, HE WAS BIGGER THAN ME... what does everyone suggest you should do if you are on your own, with no chance of help and a guy is getting violent... any amazing suggestions? Other than taking self defence classes or carrying a Glock!

I've found that shooting one of those from close range is usually a good example of what will happen to their eye without a mask.

Failing that shoot the moron in the happy sack from close range then he'll just lie on the ground sobbing.
Are you mad?!?!?!?!?
Wasting good creme eggs like that! It's just not right!

I've said it before, unless you are going to take a lot of self-defence training.............run like hell, shouting all the way.
The majority of short self-defence courses are inadequate and just gives you the confidence to hang around long enough to get kicked to crap. It's what I tell everyone I train.
Just think about it........you've done 45 minutes of training every week for two years......great. You come up against a nutter twice your size who's trained for three years.
Run like hell unless you are extremely coinfident or can't possibly get away.
If your really worried about it I can show you something nasty to do to 'em. ANd it doesn't involve the nads. ('cos I know your lot are partial to the odd knackering). :)

Good for you, so if you were attacked, you could defend yourself. How about someone who's done 45 minutes a week for three months? reckon you could take them? 'cos if you listen to most self defence experts, you'd lose.
Load of crap isn't it. Just gives you the confidence to wait around and get kicked to death.
Run like hell, unless you've trained as much as ices.

Saying that one of the lads I work with is a black belt 2nd dan in Karate, and also does some kick boxing and stuff as well. He normally fairs really well in competitions.... didn't really help him though when he got hit in the back of the head with a picnic table from behind on Osbourne road though when we were out on the drink @ Christmas

well it depends on the state of yourself at the time and what the area you are in, is like.

For instance a street is different to a gym and this can put alot of martial artists into a different mind-set than they are at a gym, training.

WIng-chun kung-fu is what i do and this is a street martial arts and what you learn is very nasty stuff, non of your run of the mill pansy karate stuff, sorry but styles like karate dont have an edge when its used on the streets, it tends to turn into an all out brawl with you scrappin on the floor.

But as you said your friend got a hit to his head, thats a scenario which you just have to keep in mind because everyone can be beaten, even though it may be as crude as what happened to him.

Self defence classes are useful but it doesnt prepare you for a real scenario, do martial arts instead.

Mark Strange is my kung-fu teacher, he also does kick-boxing too, and has also starred with jackie Chan in a HK film :D

or:-
maybe us' ickle' marshals should be provided with bodyguards who just stand at the flag station in their black suits & sunglasses and look 'ard

Seriously tho, prevention/staying calm is the best approach to avoid players getting this irate in the first place. If he had a marker from hell why wasn't it swapped earlier on for one that worked? In that situation I'd have tried something along the lines of: "Look buddy, i can see youre really pissed off about this and i will do all i can to sort out your marker in a moment, but just now i really need you to keep your goggles on. If a paintball hits your eye right now its not going to stop until it meets the back of your skull. Its gonna take half your brain with it, so, can we just pop the gogs back on please"? If he refused to cooperate at that point i'd have immediately called game over. If he struck me in any manner i wouldn't think twice about using 'reasonable force' in the form of a single blow. (A firm stab in the nuts with the co2 bottle end of a spare marker will force him to be reasonable)! I would then apologise to the rest of the players for disrupting their days play and assure them it is the first incident of its kind the site had ever experienced and hope it hasnt spoilt their days paintballing. I'd resume play after his mates/my manager/the police/an ambulance had removed him from my field.

99.9% of customers will adhere to the rules of keeping goggles on it's the minority that think they know better.

when a customer removes their goggles in game or when not authorised to do so, all marshalls that see this will immedietly shout at the top of their voice to put them on whilst rapidly making their way over to the player. if the goggles are still not donned the players eyes are covered in the quickest method. once the eyes are covered goggles can be put back on and if neccersary a bollocking can be given.

we use a three strike rule. if customers:

take goggles off once- warning publically (normally shames em)

take goggles off twice- sit out remainder of game and or next game (definetly shames em)

third time- goodbye sir thank you for coming, this is your bill!

there are no exceptions to this, and we've only got to a third strike once.

Any player that uses violence or threats of against another player or marshall, is immedietly removed and escorted from the site. Any refusal to leave and if the incident is serious enough the police are called.

why get yourself into bother? let the police deal with it, at the end of the day the site owner is the boss and it all falls on their head if it goes wrong.
