Hi all I'm new here and signed up to get some advice, I'm currently using a DAM, with a TechT bolt, box loader and have an assessment of barrels, inserts and fins.

However when playing at my local work on site yesterday I felt that I was not only being out gunned but also accurately out ranged, which was a sad day when you think the one marker on the field that was built for woods ball was being destroyed by the array of markers designed of tournament playing.

So now I'm a tad lost as to how to over come this little issue, do I stick with the DAM and make some changes that will allow me that bit of range that will let me accurately get my paint near these players and if so let me know what to do.

Or do stop considering buying a Ego Lvl 1 or cross over XVR and just buy one, as I have to confess I do like the way my mates XVR handles and it can put far more paint down than my DAM as I can only run at most burst fire and that had no affect on the onslaught of paint that was thrown at me yesterday

The Dye Dam is still a modern electronic paintball gun just like speedball guns with a 'real gun like' body

Changing to an LV1 or XVR will just give you a more compact & ergonomic design, you could strip down the DAM to remove the shroud and stock.

What do you mean by outgunned? Did they have a greater rate of fire etc? You can change the fire mode and BPS or practice your trigger finger

    Where you really consistently outranged?
It can seem that you are outranged when balls are falling at your feet, but you can't see that yours are falling at their feet. This does not mean the ball is still effective

For consistent, accurate fire look at your paint, its match to your barrel, and velocity
The velocity will typically be 280fps maximum at a walkon. Can you chrono consistently? Check your barrel with an almost exact match to the balls bore, but also try a slight over or under bore.
Following that try and adjust down the velocity as you may find a sweet spot for consistency if you drop the velocity a little
(Google hammerhead barrels and look on their support information on how to 'dial in' a hammerhead for consistency - you don't necessarily need a hammerhead barrel and can use the same principles)

When you are facing your opposition and can't quite reach them, angle the tip of your barrel upwards, and aim just over their heads. If it's too woody with trees overhead then hang your gun under your crotch
A volley shot will arc overhead and drop down at a slightly longer range

Thanks for the help Tom and yes from what I could see I was getting a constant chrono.

I did change my barrels a bit as well, starting with my Dye front end and a 684 freak insert, but I got breakage. So went to my Lapco big shot which is a 687 and that worked ok.

As it was a hot day I didn't want to go too small, so next used my widowmaker with a 686 fin and again got a perfect chrono, in fact the marshal said it was bang on the money.

As for the others I hear what you are saying and there was a shed load of paint raining down on me, but it seemed like where as my paint was falling short theirs seemed to be going that bit further.

I also thought my marker was playing up, as I was running 3 ball burst and it seemed like it was on fully auto, but found I was in away ramping up and I ended up chucking more paint out but even then I couldn't keep up with their fire rate.

I tend not to play with my bolt setting, mainly as I don't have a chrono so it's set as is and I think I'm chronoing at about 286 with 11 to 12 balls a second.

With finding my range I also found I was lobbing them in, but possibly because my fire rate is less than theirs that may have been why it didn't seem like I was getting anywhere

LV1 or 1.1 with a quality hopper and a nice carbon 1.2 bottle, sorted.
Or a geo 3.5 never misses a beat.

Is the 1.1 just a slightly newer version of the 1?

If so I wouldn't mind either if I'm honest, unless I'm told that one is better than the other because of.

Yes just the newer version of the LV1, haven't had the 1.1 so can't comment on the improvements.
I've had a few LV1's though and can recommend them and the geo 3.5 or pretty much any of the modern planet markers.

That's what I'm hearing, I'm just after a second marker incase my DAM fails and also just to have something lite weight to play with.

The DAM is great, but isn't exactly lite weight

I had a couple of DAM's which I quickly gave up on.
