as in the question , what is the difference between all the egos, for example apart from it coming it out in 2004 why is an 05 so much cheaper than an 11, and which one do think will be good for a beginner/intermediate, so i get the most bang for my buck?

Oooft where to begin :

Don't go for anything pre-08. As spare parts are impossible to come by these days. Hence why they can go for a lot less.

Ego 9:
New Style Solenoid that doesn't have any troublesome QEV diaphragms.

Ego 10:
Comes with a Zick2 Kit
Cure 3+ Bolt.
Larger Screen

Ego 11:
SL3 Regulator : Deals with both HP and LP air system
New Style POPS. 45 degree Elbow.
New Solenoid with Flow Restrictors.

Ego S:

Ego 11 made in 2012.

Ego LV1:
Uses a Lever Valve to open the poppet. Smoother and Efficient
New Style Rammer
New Style Bolt (Cure5)
SL4 Regulator
AT Grip Frame
Uses the same Solenoid as the Ego 11/S

Bang for buck wise, and as a beginner, you might want to take a look at the Etek Range.
Typically they implement the technology seen in the previous Ego designs.

I have an 05 ego but I've had to source parts from the us. I'm also looking at getting another as a donor gun though. One benefit of an older ego is that you'll learn the maintenance side pretty quick.

In terms of bang for buck!! Get the etha! The eteks are brilliant markers and are equally as easy to maintain as the etha!!
