use paypal, and pay the fees, you're covered then in case something goes wrong.
The name and the date is to prove that the item is in your possession when you advertise it. Saves any 'yeah, I've got your money, I'm just waiting for my mate to send me the gun before I can send it to you' type scenarios.

Haha I fell into that trap - fortunately someone else already asked the question so I didn't have to!

Regarding payment - PayPal is the best method
Don't be tempted to use 'payment owed' as this is used to avoid fees - most importantly it removes PayPal protection
(It does not remove criminal / fraud protection but you have to go through the police then)
Evading fees saves 4% but you may end up paying the fee yourself anyway depending on the status of the transaction
If the buyer wants x amount after fees then work out the right amount to pay so that it ends up with that amount (by increasing your payment EG £104 you pay a fee in the £4 as well, so do some calculations)
If it goes wrong you can claim your money back straight from PayPal

Bank transfers should also be avoided

Note paintball guns are not permitted via PayPal
You can still use PP, just don't mention guns or markers
And if there is a claim then again don't mention guns or markers
