Why is THIS on Tv!?

And people want to watch F1 etc. because they can't do it themselves, and people enjoy seeing fast cars and the skill of world class sports car drivers.

Having a world class paintballer who can shoot 30bps is no way as cool or as fun to watch as M. Schumacher or Colin McCrae driving their respective cars. Car racing etc. is a spectator sport. Paintball is a participant sport.

Golf on its own is pretty darn expencive to play at a high level, with the average Round costing abuot £20, an a high class, full set of golf clubs setting you back £1000+ its less expencive than paintball, an a lot easier for the average Joe to watch than a game of paintball!!

The other thing that people have not taken into account is that sports like lawn and indoor bowls are some of the most successful (ratings wise) broadcast sports on television! You need to identify the most abundant audience demographic, and i assure you it aint your average paintballer or extreme sports enthusiast.


It may also be worth realising that by law you cannot gain sponsorship for an event on the basis of it being broadcast. The sponsorship must come first. The industry must create it and then television might one day come and do a feature on paintball.

F1's different everyone drives so can relate

A lot of people play golf but the clubs you see players use on tv cost a lot lot more than a grand (try 5-10k) but the guys down your club spend 500 -1000 on clubs

My point is it isnt all about the money remember we have guns that can compete now for £200

Paintball may just not be everyones cup or tea we are like marmite in that sence you will get people who will spend their last few quid out of their pay in order to get themselves to a tourney and you get those who give up when they first get shot

Get it on tv and you will get a lot more of both

A few reasons paintball will never get on prime time telly in a regular slot:

1) Its bloody expensive to cover. And Golf isnt cameras covering 18 holes all over
2) It belongs in a magazine show as a feature. why?
3) It's rediculously hard to follow and predict. (coverage wise) name a sport that is predictable thats why people will like it you need about 6-8 cameras and then edit it
4) It's boring to watch for any length of time. how come test match cricket lasted then bit of rain and you have to listen to a couple of old farts talk about the good old days

paintball wont get prime time telly because it isnt well enough known the best tv show to get it on is the x games if they would have us and then move on from there if it kicks off

There's another, very simple reason why paintball isn't a great spectator, and therefore TV, sport. There needs to be a single focus that the action centres around. Soccer - the football. Cricket - the ball again. Tennis - guess what, another single ball. Equestrian events - the horse & rider doing that round. Field athletics - the thrower/jumper. Even multi-competitor sports have a much smaller focus for the viewer. Motor racing - whichever car is on screen at that time/the race leaders bunched together. Track athletics - your favorite athlete/ the front runners. Horse racing - same as track athletics.

Whereas in paintball you really need to be aware of the stuff going on over the whole field to understand what's going on. Watching just one back player trading paint with his mirror isn't exactly exciting, but trying to guess the next exciting piece of action like which player is going to make that brilliant mugging run or dive into the snake can be hard. Try it next time you're watching at a tournament - keep your main focus on just one player, or the flag, & see just how exciting it is to watch (not) - you need to be able to understand everything thats going on front, back, left, right & centre. And that's too much effort for the majority of armchair sportsfans, and a bitch to try to film.

As far as im aware my dvd player has a multi camera angle option, which admitadley ive never been able to utilise as of yet. but thiswould be fantastic for a paintball dvd, perferct for rewatching your fav dvd's and events over and over from many different angles. Thus problem no1 sorted as this feature is also availible on sky sports.

As far as boring to watch goes, i do agree sometimes paintball can be very tiresoem to watch for any length of time, but then again so is F1, football, golf, bowls etc etc so thats not a valid argument against it as all these other sports make it onto TV.

Also i dont think being on tv is the b all of getting paintball to become what we really want as a community all ballers. Its already a growign sport and should be left as is media coverage wise for the time being allow the fanbase to grow gradually and goverments to decide there postions EXACTLY on the markers themselves.
