OK - daft question time.
Does that frame just 'fit' (besides the FRM of course) - or is there some breech mod needed?

Both screw holes in the frame align perfectly with the front and rear mountings on the ion.
The rear screw goes straight in but the front will require the custom FRM with a long screw going from th ion breach, through the front hole in the ego frame and into the FRM.
That's the easy bit, hard bit is tha air connections as their just isn't enough room for normal banjo's. Have come up with soem ideas for that and will see if they hold air when i gas it up towards the end of the week.

i heard of a guy doing this, though he put a spacer between the body and frame so he could the banjos in, it added wieght and size, buy once annoed and milled a bit you could hardly notice
Hmmm - keep me posted - sounds like I've got some ego 05 star frame buying to do .

Doesn't need to be a star frame, any 05 (probably 06 too) ego frame will do but as said before it's really the FRM where the issues lie, taken me 5 hours to machine that FRM and probably another 8 hours by the time it's finished and anno'd.
Don't use the centre screw, unlike a normal ion the 5.1 doesn't have a rotating doughnut so that screw actually does something.
You also need to consider the board and which noid to use.
Certainly not a cheap way to make an ion, probably £400+ without charging myself any labour.
