Gino Postorivo ain't exactly known for his low profile; his former company National Paintball Supplies went onto establish itself as one of the biggest concerns in our industry.
NPS was eventually bought out by a conglomerate along with another of our industry's behemoths, PMI, giving birth to Kee Action Sports.
Most of us in the industry thought that would be the last we heard of Gino and the guys from PMI [Dave Freeman and Jeff Perlmutter] because the financial packages those guys ended up with would have kept California running for about a 100 years or paid for the Rolling Stone's cocaine use for about 6 months.
It seems though, money and the life of Riley ain’t everything it’s cracked up to be, and eventually the lure of paintball had drawn Gino back in its fateful embrace.
Nobody really knows why Gino ignored all the usual signs associated with a depressed marketplace but he returned like the prodigal son introducing the world of paintball to his new company, Valken Sports.
It is the nature of our industry that new products, especially innovative ones, have always helped young companies climb the ladder; Gino knows full well what it takes to get to the top but it's easier said than done especially in today's climate because margins are so competitive and recent sales ain’t exactly giving cause for too much confidence.
Against this somewhat discouraging background, Gino decided to invest a considerable personal sum into the development of a new loader .. but this loader just had to be different.
The market just wouldn’t respond to a ‘run of the mill’ paint feeder; this loader had to out-perform all others in every department, leastwise that was his goal.
And he realised this was only possible if the design ethos imposed was a departure from conventional approaches.
The VMax loader wasn’t just about feeding balls at high speed reliably into the breach of your marker, it achieved that early on but it had to be disassembled easily without compromising its performance; it’s a juggling act many a designer has fallen foul of before.
The VMax has only one screw holding the entire thing together and with its new modular design philosophy, it upheld all of Gino’s aspirations for his flagship loader.
It will be available in about 3 weeks time and already has huge orders from an expectant dealer base.
