As far as i know the answer is yes, intournaments guns can only fire in semi auto ie one shot is fired for every pull of the trigger.
By UK law, if your marker can fire more than one shot per pull of the trigger, you can be arrested, because it becomes classed under the firearms act or summin. If you want more information, look at www.ukpsf.co.uk

So how come Smartparts & other paintball shops can sell markers with turbo modes which fire more than one ball per trigger pull?
Guppy don't be too hard on Ciaran he is right, however the turbo mode is in a grey area so it has been banned by agreement not by law...self regulation nothing else..it is fine for Smart Parts to sell the markers with that mode...you just can't use it in tournaments here, there are benifits to be had from the electronics even if you don't enable the turbo mode. So that will answer your next question of why buy a marker with a mode you can't use.
I think its like the use of DOT bottles over here, another grey area. Because Smartparts and Co. do sell DOT bottles, but its illegal to use them commercially or summin, but not to sell them.
