Nick, I didn't mean to imply (as I obviously did) that the Mayhem of old was better in any way, I mentioned it as a precursor to the Hyperball events as a context and the revolutionary effect those two WDP events had for everybody.

You also mention the fact we don't get the top Yank teams and that is also a significant reason why the CC (or any other Millennium for that matter) has lost some of its glitz and importance.

You have been around long enough to realize the CC, as it is now, hasn't evolved at all, it has regressed, and at the same time become more expensive for less playing time and so on .....It's a particularly sad indictment of its management.

My honest opinion is this, Crystal Palace was always being used for exactly the same reason ulrich wasn't sacked ......exactly the same..

However, I think we should wait on passing judgement on the CC, until it has actually been held..... new venue, new system for running MS events, new board, new dates..... we MAY be pleasantly surprised.

At any rate, I think it is a poor excuse for teams to say they don't want to play the CC because it was crap..... honestly, apart from some netting blowing down and the cars getting broken into, I think last years event was pretty good.

But, as with every other MS events the past 3 years (Toulouse being the eternal exception), the lack of local advertising is what kills them every time.... it doesn't matter where we put an event - if nobody except the participants knows about it, we are wasting our time trying to put the MS at cool venues.

one of the biggest problems in the uk is that there are to many players that want to be a big fish in a small pond and thays why i believe they stick to playing there regional tornument series

As for the new venue, new everything else etc, I really hope it all works out for everbody because it is an oportunity for the Millennium Board to cast aside all those failed Crystal Palace endeavours and treat us all to a new era.

Pete, we'll have to agree to disagree. I am not going to spend my whole day defending the promotional merits of previous Campaign events. The Semtex comment made me laugh, but players watching the finals and dare I say it, the EXL, have been motivated to improve their own games - I can say that hand on heart, as I'm one of them and I know others.

Try saying that when you were sitting at 8pm waiting to find out whether or not you were playing, having been up at 6am that morning to try and fight for a table to get yourself set up, after not having eaten anything for 8 hours.

Try saying that to the guys whose cars were broken into. How many was it in the end? 48 vehicles or something ridiculous like that?

I hope I'm not being included in "the board" as I am only trying to assist the MS with this latest venue because I feel it has a lot of potential to bring back some of that missing atmosphere.

Spike, I didn't know, and I'm pretty sure the vast majority of people had no knowledge of this role you are apparently playing in 'spicing' up this year's CC in Basildon and so I wonder why you thought it necessary to make sure I was excluding you in my comments.

However, since you felt the need to flag your involvement up, can I ask what your expertise is, bearing in mind you are advising the board on a most crucial and sophisticated area of event promotion.

As I see it, one would need considerable experience in marketing and promotion of the required high octane events before the players and vendors could even begin to have confidence in turning it all around and as far as i know, you are full time employed as a tractor electrical engineer are you not?

If this is still the case Spike, you can hardly blame us for having at least, some reservations mate.

But the whole 'big fish in a small pond' argument only works if a team is a big fish within a series anyway.

If you take a team like mine, who have been playing for less than 2 years, started in KOTH at the masters and have just stepped up to Div 3. What is the point in playing at CC?

If money was no object, I'd go along, I'd love to play it just for the experience (of getting our arses kicked all day ). But, we can improve our game playing at the Masters, we have committed ourselves to playing the whole season and if anyone want's to criticise us for that, well, suit yourself.

Edit:

I do realise that a lot of criticism may be aimed at the people higher up than us, such as the Div 1 teams. But the sweeping generalisation does make it sound like it's aimed at everyone.

well its been a long time since i have been this excited about a CC didn't even play last year because of apathy for millennium's. but this year i am like a well looking forward to it. the anticipation level is HIGH

Why were you there at 6 am if you were not playing till 8pm??

As for the cars, you can hardly blame the promoters for that.... could have happened at every event, if some crafty local criminals got wind of an event - of any kind.

Even if you go to Old Trafford, most spectators do not have validated and supervised parking.
