Why do we have such big balls?

Firstly, a smaller paintball, would very likely weigh less. Therefore it would be able to be shot at higher velocity.

If it turned out to be harder, then of course it would hurt more, because, like bouncers, it would go in further and impart more energy on you, hence the agony.

The liquid your talking about would do the opposite. A Non Newtonian Liquid, when under acceleration, would be forced back against the shell, which would make it behave like a solid...then when it hit you, it would then behave like a liquid again.

But, if the treadmill was going at the same speed as the custard filled paintball, in the opposite direction, it couldn't possibly take off.
