I disagree with you here. Every good abstract/expressionist/whatever artist is very talented. Otherwise anyone could do it, and believe me they can't. Although I am slightly biased as my art has mainly centered around expressionism and colourism and my art teacher was taught by Hodgkin.

Im not saying every "abstract/expressionist/whatever artist" is untalented, it's just it does bug me when you have someone who has literally just thrown some paint on a canvas and then expect people to think they are as talented as the guys and gals that put hours and hours into a single piece.

Comic Art - Kevin O'Neill, Carlos Ezquerra, Cam Kennedy.

I have a book by Harry Harrison called "Mechanismo" featuring art by Giger and others which is very good.

I tend too agree ,on a recent visit to the Tate Modern I viewed one of the exhibits which was several packing crates built in a square with 2 photo's stuck too it, one a photo of a cottage and teh other a bus if I remember correctly...is that as worthy as the Dali or the Picasso upstairs ? In my eyes no way..

Constable ftw...

For me, Art is having a meaning and understanding for what the Artist makes. All Art is based on a reason for it being created. For example, Emotions / Irony.

I agree that Art is 100% subjective too.

That fella, Martin Creed won the Turner prize for a sodding light bulb and the unmade bad that was nominated for it. I can understand slightly why but i cant say i believe they are talented.

Maybe impressive for a design and technology project for a kid in year 6.......

In essence, the art is about explaining the reason for the art.

I disagree that your random paint splatters on a canvas don't constitute art. If someone paints a picture of a train, your enjoyment of that picture is down to the artist's ability to paint a train. If your artist throws some paint onto a canvas and calls it a train, and you have to define it for yourself then the art isn't just the picture the art is the artist making you come to your own conclusions as to how it's a train.
