Yeah, they'll probably laugh if you take in your gun to have the barrel fitted! 
Are you 100% sure you have the right back? I accidentally picked up my impy back once and was fuming at how difficult it was to get on... luckily I know to be gentle, so nothing got stripped.
The shocker one just takes a bit of jiggling to get both helixes to match up, and then will screw in smoothly.

Sweet... ironically, I'm now having a similar problem where the one combination of aluminium freak back and AA front I want to use on my shocker won't actually fit together!
The freak back/front threads are a bitch, partly because they're so fine and the aluminium chews so easily, and partly because that damn o-ring meets the back just as the threads start to mate. The lightest film of grease on the o-ring makes it a good deal easier.
Yeah.... unfortunately for this particular case the oring isn't even meeting up with the Freak back it APPEARS that the collar just before the o-ring is too big to fit into the back!!!
