hey fellas new year and new toys to show you

Camera mkII

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Vehicle-Camera-video-Mini-DV-DVR-spy-car-sport-Recorder-/200490972547?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2eae317583#ht_2381wt_1116

Approximately £4.30 for the camera but approx. £11.14 for Standard Int'l Postage so i got two just in case but the guy don't do combined shipping so bummer on that one

Upon getting the camera’s in the post I opened the boxes to find there was NO power leads in ether box??? (bummer) so I got onto the guy on EBay and 2 weeks later he sent me the leads out for free to me (as it should be) It’s the same lead as the other cams but I thought I’ve paid for them so I want them!!

My first opinion on the cameras was” their armoured up” well compared to the other cameras I’ve talked about in my other posts

The on and off and the SD-card was hidden under a metal casing like the part you unscrew on a maglite to get the batteries out

On the front of the cam has been armoured up where as the other cameras you could touch the lens these have a bit of plex-glass to protect it which is always nice...

In the box you get a window mount for your car like a tom-tom mount that holds the cam it works really well but I didn’t buy them for the car

At first I was going to try and modify the window mount but in the end I noticed that the cams girth (lol) was the same as an old 32x2 scope that I had for my old rifle so I used the mounts....

and the camera fitted perfectly but the mount was 11mm so I popped to my local hunting emporium and it worked out A LOT cheaper to get two 11mm to 20mm mount converters
So with this

http://i857.photobucket.com/albums/ab134/rosstheguyver/barrel camera 2/IMAG0061-640x480.jpg

I got this

So now they fit my on sp1 and it looks like they was made for the cams as if they came in the box

I’ve had a look on EBay and you can pick up a set off 20mm mount for a scope for around £6 for a pair

Job done …
…………
I charged the cameras overnight and had a play with them and here is what I found out
…………
They work almost the same way as the other cameras one button start it recording and one to stop These cameras now have the ability to take pictures to along with taking video (bonus)

To take a pic after you turn it on press and hold the button for about 3 seconds and the LED will turn off and now every time you press the button it takes a snap

Pictures are taken at 1280x1024 at 72dpi taking around 300kb to 400kb on the card
After plugging it in to the pc and going in to the picture properties there loads of info on how the pic was taken and what settings it used to take it

(WARNING)

there is no anti shake or anything like that so be sure to take a few snaps to get a good shot with it and low light is a no no for this mode and sadly the time stamp is present too :C

Pic was taken in the afternoon with bedroom light on

Not the best i know but as a new mode for the little cameras to have on them it’s a plus

Footage is still in .AVI format running 720x480 at 30fps (depending on the card) sound is still mono sadly, footage is still terrible in artificial light as the camera try’s to enhance to footage with what I Can only describe as night mode that you used to get on nokia mobile’s if your relatively still its ok but if your moving then bullet time kicks in lol..

just a snip i did for the post using a tippmann in the back garden

After plugging in the card to my laptop I noticed one thing that I don’t like about the camera in one way but in another way I kind of do what it was is wile recording the camera brakes up the footage up into files 5 minutes in length there is no gaps in the recording when you put them together on the pc on the plus side less cutting out parts if you forget to stop it but more hassle editing (well kind of) the footage seams a little better than the last cams but that could be just daylight and that I’m not using cheap and cheerful cards anymore but I will be doing some testing of this to see as if it turns out the same on an old class 2 card then no need for me to get some more class 6’s

As the mount I am using in the pics is meant for more of the woods baller I am getting these

First is for a flash light on your push bike

it looks like it will do the job well if it all fits as it will just clip on to the underside of the barrel so I can use it on my other markers and if other people want to use it its simple enough to past it over without having to make sure they have a way of using it on their marker this was priced at about £3 with the postage

The second is kind of the same but this adds a rail on your barrel to use other add-ons if you wish but it comes with a scope mount but were as the other just clips on and off this bolts on so if you’re on the field not so easy to swop unless there using the same type of barrel and u just swop them this cost double at around £8 with the postage but since ordering them I’ve seen them cheaper on eBay at around £5 posted but it’s all good

To some them up a couple of points

1. Wish they wouldn't put the time stamp on there or at least give us some way to take it off!!!!!

2. wish the night mode didn't happen when the camera picks up artificial light i would rather it be abit dark then the footage go into some mad slow mo. it’s like watching a VERY bad copy of the matrix that's been watched way to many time on an old vhs player .. Let’s just say it’s letting the side down BIG time

3. The audio is better

4. 300x more rugged due to the case covering the card and switch and the lens cover

5. The shape makes it a lot more piratical for what we want to use it for

6. this point goes hand in hand with point 4 whereas with the old ones we all thought "oh well if it takes a big hit on the field and breaks then there cheap enough to get another one "well due to how well the case of these are we don’t need to think like that

7. There still WAY cheaper them most of the other sports cameras i.e.
Actioncam Sports Helmet Digital Camcorder at around £35-£60
Sport-Cam HC-03 Waterproof Helmet Camera £80-£100
AHC 4000 £59-£100

8. the clips are coming up to about 60mb per min or as closed to 60mb but after putting them into sony vagas they seam to look better and there smaller in memory so the vid ive posted stared at about 38mb but after sony vagas it was about 4mb odd but good i guess ..

ive had a play with the settings on sony vagas and i did the setting to edit the video and save it in untouched format so it don't change size or bit rates of anything and i get this

sunp0011 is the file on the card after taking the vid with sound and in daylight and sunp0011(1) is the same file but after going though vagas on the setting i just described

sunp0011 is 41.5mb and sunp0011(1) 31.2mb
http://i857.photobucket.com/albums/ab134/rosstheguyver/barrel camera 2/Untitled.jpg

both 49 seconds long both with sound and same frame rates but vagas wil only put 96kbs on the sound even tough im telling it not to but you cant notice so i guess it dont mater but if i tell vagas to optimize output of the file to what it thinks is best i get this and still can hardly tell the differenced between them
shown here
http://i857.photobucket.com/albums/ab134/rosstheguyver/barrel camera 2/Untitled-1.jpg
but as before the sunp0011 is 41.5mb but now the sunp001(1) in only 7.1mb !!!

i will make a vid of all 3 cams side by side recording the same thing and post it on this thread with the stats to them to ...

i will keep editing this post if i notice of can think of anything else that will help

could you link to a video example of them? just to see the video quality of them. Also what's the audio like on them, if there is any?

Image seems pretty good, are you using an sd card or does it come with x amount of on board memory?

How big was the file size for the 27sec video?

Also when you moved the marker around was the footage smooth or did you find it slightly jerky?

Sorry for all the questions, but i bought a mini camera recently and it was awful, claimed 30fps at 1280*960, it was closer to 12fps and nearer 640 colours. Also when moving the camera around on the marker the image wasnt smooth at all.

hi mate when i was out side it works 100% as i have said in the post but when it gets ANYWHERE near artificial light there crap as i described with the bullet time effect in the post all of these types of cam have this problem but as ive described in my other post where i 1st brought these types of cams to everyone's attention or at least the 1st to write about them on here that i know of
the cams with the buttons have this problem but the cam that has the switches on them does not they work better but there only 620x480
